The majority of families in these targeted communities are struggling for survival. As a result, there is little importance assigned to education. Children often drop out around Grade 5 leading to child labour and/or early marriages. 

 

As most adults are uneducated and unskilled, the only consistent opportunity for employment is labour work - often in India.  Many parents work and live away from their home often leaving children as young as 12 in charge of the household duties and younger siblings.

  

The health of the children in this region is deplorable as the local medical posts do not have proper equipment or resources to offer adequate health care.
